I watched The Knife playing live yesterday and it made me think differently about live music. It should be a performance! A show. I want to do that besides its a damn fine excuse to don my newly repaired tweed and pour porridge into a drawer. My gran used to feed hot porridge to the birds when it was cold. She would go out into the garden with a steaming pot and a wooden spoon and fling it everywhere. You used to get it on your shoes and everything. It was my gran who first told me about the tradition of setting porridge in a drawer and then carving it up into squares when it had set. Hence the Tracker bar! no thats not true. Incidentally if your hungry have a fucking banana!

OK not posted in ages but now I'm a hermit I'm going to be doing a lot more self indulgent blethering. I'm super stoked about the following; maw and paws at Christmas, new year at ours on Skye with the lads and lasses (who are tight as hell) finishing the poacher and ghillie album and seeing what Nicky has come up with for the art work of said album and finishing Ion engine 3 finally! Oh almost forgot, i was standing in the sea the other day, water teetering precariously close to the top of my wellies, looking for muscles on the rocks. I paused to take it all in, a seal bobbing in the water, the sun setting, a harr coming in when what should i hear but distant pipe music wafting from a distant glen and I thought......... what a fucking cliche and went home.

My last post was so boring and geeky that i thought i would just say that I'm actually very happy. Gilly and I now have a wee allotment and we planted broad beans at the weekend. David and Jean are going to give us Jerusalem artichokes to plant as well which should be nice. (they lent us a great book on self sufficiency)Cal and I were out working on the studio at the weekend and clad one of the doors with Larch its quite beautiful if i do say so myself. In other news G and i may have found a house on Skye which I am super duper stoked about. We did a bit of drawing last night designing the plan and it would be amazing. The Drawing above was part of my thesis project and was a design for a house on Skye for us so it would be incredible if it actually happened. Anyway happy happy. Listening to Don Caballero at work and drinking tea made with fresh mint leaves. If you have ever danced in public or made music or taken drugs or done all of these simultaneously (your mum must be very proud). And if you realise that most (and I'm going to use a radio 4 genre here) 'electronic' music is not necessarily made under the influence of or for people under the influence of drugs. Well your probably going to want to take allot of speed and batter the living shit out of the Keane loving tit who wrote it. He whines that he would definately have to be on drugs to get through a night of hud mos music which he (after having evidently listened to one tune) brand as chip music or something. To be ohnest what Hud Mos has to do with 8 bit, chiptunes,drugs, Dub step or wonk(what is wonk?) is beyond me. Its about hip hop, soul and RnB, its not a lame imitation of J Dee. Dilla was ground breaking but he died and people who were interesting enough to be listening to him carried on being inspired by his music. Any way sorry for the rant but read it and hate him. On another note electronic dancy wancy music is pre programmed so it can never be totally live. However allot people including afore mentioned Hud MO do a jolly good job of making it exciting to look at with buttons and boxes. So yeah... i showed them

Getting some new music together to play out, loving the dirty projectors still. oh and finally properly got into Don Caballero i like them alot more than battles i think. Also cant help but love Matt and Kim, there just so nice and they can play live really well and stuff. finally got out of my duby phase. my hair has grown back a bit, interesting that this has triggered my liking of guitars again (not in a tech way i dont/cant play guitar). Was watching a really good video of Shellac playing last night this guy in the crowd shouts "why do you suck so much" and Steve Albini thinks for a bit an then says "cos your mum was busy" and then adresses the audience and says "see i went straight for the mum, went straight there" (only he says mom on account of him being American and all.

This week i have been mostly listening to the following selection of tunes which i put in this order for Neil as it is his birthday soon. They are all amazing, i particulalrly like the Dirty Projectors at the moment.I believe that one of their albums is Black Flag covers.jolly good.I got really excited when I heard about the idea behind Nouvelle Vague for the first time, you know a kind of Indy band re interpreting punk songs an that, but they seem dreadfull. people should really not cover Joy Division dont you think?? which brings me to another point.. Control is amazing. Black Flag are also very good (mostly) and Henry Rollins is the bomb in Bad Boys 2 yo. Dirty Projectors play Glasgow at the end of this month and Lucky Dragons are supporting. Oh and Mast (Samoyed and Samiam) or Sam and Andrew to give them their sunday names (see photo in Ion engine post) are supporting LUKID at the end of the month too. how excitiing.

Emma was working in the pub so we went to see her later on via quite a few fields. Rosie lost everything in her bag and so the following day we went looking for things and found her purse her camera her phone and many other personal items liberally distributed in heather and grass. I took this photo of Nesty at Arisaig in the far north of Scotland. We were on a wee road trip up to Skye the long way round, we camped on a few beaches crusty style and had a great time. The side compartment bits of Barry my car have been filled with pebbles shells and a particularly kitsch postcard ever since. There was a yacht anchored in the bay just out of shot to the right which made the whole thing feel like a bond film.

Here are some old photos of our wee project indeed Craft Design Republics first porject. very exciting. We (cal n me) designed and built it with our Joiner pal Andy and had lots of help along the way from good friends an that.
